POCKET MIDI ^^^^^

Pocket MIDI is a utility that can be used to send the text as a SysEx message. It is a simple MIDI monitoring tool for both Windows and Mac OSX platforms. Setting up the computer and software

  1. Download the Pocket MIDI utility and install it in your computer.
  2. Select the MIDI interface Input and Outputs to device where the CHD device is connected to (drop-down menu Views > MIDI Settings > Input Port / Output Port).
  3. Connect a CHD device accordingly to the figure above.
    (Note: Not all CHD devices allow bi-directional MIDI communication - some of them have only MIDI input. That devices cannot transmit response to "Request" type SysEx messages.)

 

Send SysEx message to a CHD device

Basic procedure to send any SysEx data in text form to a CHD device:

  1. Generate required SysEx message ("Load" type) in the SysEx Messages Generator dedicated to your interface.
    (Note: In the generator window, set "FF" form of Hex Bytes and "space" delimiter).
  2. Copy the text in clipboard (CTR+C) and paste (CTRL+V) in "System Exclusive" window [1] of the Pocket MIDI.
  3. Click the "^" ("Transmit") arrow [2] to send the data to the interface.
  4. The sent message appears in the "MIDI Out Monitor" window [3].
  5. Alternatively, you can save the file for future use (either by the floppy icon [4] as a *.txt file or in the File drop-down menu [5] as a *.pocketmidi file).

 

Request SysEx data from a CHD device

Basic procedure to receive SysEx data in text form from a CHD device:

  1. Generate required SysEx message ("Request" type) in the SysEx Messages Generator dedicated to your interface.
    (Note: In the generator window, set "FF" form of Hex Bytes and "space" delimiter).
  2. Copy the text in clipboard (CTR+C) and paste (CTRL+V) in "System Exclusive" window [1] of the Pocket MIDI.
  3. Click the "^" ("Transmit") arrow [2] to send the data to the interface.
  4. The sent message appears in the "MIDI Out Monitor" window [3].
  5. The CHD device responds with "Load" type SysEx message. The received message appears in the "MIDI In Monitor" window [4].
  6. Click on the "MIDI In Monitor" window heading and save the data (File drop-down menu [5]) as a *.pocketmidi file for future use.
  7. Alternatively, you can copy the data (CTRL+C) from "MIDI In Monitor" window [4], paste them (CTRL+V) to any text editor and save as a *.txt or document file.

  5. Alternatively, you can save the file for future use (as a *.txt file or a *.syx file) with "Save As..." command from Command Window drop-down menu.

 

Request SysEx data from a CHD device

Basic procedure to receive SysEx data in text form from a CHD device:

  1. Generate required SysEx message ("Request" type) in the SysEx Messages Generator dedicated to your interface.
    (Note: In the generator window, set "FF" form of Hex Bytes and "space" delimiter).
  2. Open "SysEx View and Scratchpad" window of the MIDI OX (drop-down menu View > SysEx...) [1].
  3. Copy the text in clipboard (CTR+C) and paste (CTRL+V) in "Command Window" [2] of the MIDI OX.
  4. Send the data to the interface with "Send/Receive Sysex" command from Command Window drop-down menu [3].
  5. The CHD device responds with "Load" type SysEx message. Confirm receiving of the data by "Done" button [4]. Then the received message appears in the "Display Window" [5].
  6. Save the received data to a file for future use (as a *.txt file or a *.syx file) with "Save As..." command from Display Window drop-down menu [6].
