JU6-KBD : Roland Juno-6 / Juno-60 MIDI Interface


SPECIFICATION ^^^^^

The JU6-KBD MIDI retrofit enables your Roland Juno-6 / Juno-60 synthesizer to be integrated into MIDI systems. It allows the Roland Juno-6 / Juno-60 to be controlled via MIDI commands as a MIDI expander.

The interface works in one direction only - it only receives MIDI data. The Juno's keyboard, control panel sliders and switches are not transmitted as a MIDI data! The interface controls instrument's keyboard in parallel manner - own instrument's keyboard can also be used together with the MIDI Notes (see picture below). Also the instrument's arpeggiator speed can be controlled. No other control elements (switches, sliders, etc.) or sound parameters of the instrument are driven via MIDI and their status cannot be saved in the interface as a patch.

Features:

  • The instrument's keyboard is controlled manually and by MIDI Note On/Off commands simultaneously.
  • The keyboard can be transposed in whole range of MIDI notes 0~127.
  • Four modes of key priority can be chosen: Last / Higher / Lower / None.
  • The instrument's tone generators can be detuned (in semitone steps) by MIDI Pitch Bend command. The bend range is from 0 to ±24 semitones.
  • Any receiving MIDI channel or OMNI mode can be chosen by user.
  • Arpeggiator can be synchronized with four tempo sources.
  • 20 user's memory banks for storing of interface's parameters setting - can be changed by Pgm Change MIDI command.
  • All original features of the instrument are not changed and it can be used the same way as before the interface installation.

Interface's parameters adjustable by user (can be set via MIDI CC and SysEx Msg and stored in memory):

  • MIDI Channel (1 to 16 / OMNI)
  • Arpg CC Nr. (0 to 118)
  • Key Shift (+0 to +67 semitones)
  • Key Priority (Last / Higher / Lower / None)
  • Pitch Bend (Wheel) Range (from +-0 to +-24 semitones)
  • Arpg Clock Mode (Internal / Fix / MIDI / Controller)
  • Arpg Clock Rate (1~50 Hz or 1~128 MIDI ticks)

  • Note On / Off (0~127)
  • CC 16 - Key Shift parameter setting (0~127)
  • CC 17 - Key Priority parameter setting (0~127)
  • CC 18 - Pitch Wheel Range parameter setting (0~127)
  • CC 19 - Arpg Clock Mode parameter setting (0~127)
  • CC 20 - Arpg Clock Rate parameter setting (0~127)

INSTALLATION ^^^^^

Installation of all MIDI interface's parts into the instrument is very easy. No problem should occur if all instructions indicated in the installation manual are kept.

JU6-KBD MIDI kit package contains:

  • MIDI Interface board
  • Connecting bunched cables with MIDI socket
  • Coupling elements (screws, nuts and washers etc.)
  • Owner's and Installation manuals in printed form

FAQ & TROUBLESHOOTING ^^^^^

Problem:  >>>  Solution:

The instrument's arpeggiator stopped working after the interface installation.   Check correct connection of blue wires of the interface bunched cables to the instrument. Maybe they are exchanged together.

The instrument's arpeggiator cannot be synchronized with MIDI clock.   1. Check if transmitting of MIDI Clock is enabled in your MIDI sequencer / DAW.
2. Set "Arpg Clock Mode" interface's preset parameter to "MIDI" mode (e.g. with CC #19).
3. Select requested tempo with "Arpg Clock Rate" interface's preset parameter (e.g. with CC #20)

Some MIDI Notes are not played.   Check setting of "Key Shift" interface's preset parameter. The interface accepts only block of 61 MIDI Notes numbers and all other MIDI Notes (out of range) are ignored.

How to make "Factory Reset" of the interface?   Send "F0 00 20 21 7F 53 40 02 7F 6C F7" SysEx Message to the interface. (See chapter 6 in owner's manual for details how to do it.)
