K770-KBD, KM500-KBD: Korg 770, 700S, 900PS, M500 MIDI Interface

K770-KBD is a MIDI retrofit for Korg 770 / 700S / 900PS synthesizers.
KM500-KBD is a MIDI retrofit for Korg M500 synthesizer.

The interface controls keyboard of the instrument. The arpeggiator with expanded features is embedded.

Main features:

  • Controls the KORG's keyboard (CV for VCOs) from MIDI. The instrument's tone parameters are not MIDI controllable!
  • User MIDI CCs control of the interface parameters (as well as SysEx for experts):
  • - 48 MIDI Notes (4 octaves) range
  • - User defineable size of received MIDI Notes buffer
  • - Transpose function
  • - Pitch bend (up to +/- 1 Octave)
  • - Aftertouch (VCOs pitch modulation up to ± 4 semitones)
  • - Arpeggiator (Up, Down and two Up-Down modes, all internal and external MIDI clock syncable)
  • - Hold pedal (CC #64) with user adjustable note buffer size
  • - Legato pedal (CC #68)
  • - Local On/Off function (CC #122)
  • - User defineable optical indication of the interface status
  • 128 internal memory presets to store the interface user settings
  • Instrument's keyboard, knobs, sliders and switches are not transmitted to MIDI! MIDI data are received only.
  • MIDI Thru function (no MIDI Thrubox is necessary)
  • Original features of the Korg instrument are not changed and the instrument can be used the same way as before the interface installation.
  • Very easy installation without the instrument circuits modification.

The interface recognizes MIDI commands:

  • Note On/Off
  • Channel Aftertouch
  • Program Change
  • Pitch Bend (Wheel)
  • Standard CCs (Hold, Legato, ASO, RAC, Local Off/On, ANO)
  • Own CCs (Nr. 16 - 18, 20 - 23 and 119)
  • Common MIDI Synchronization (Clock)
  • Common System Reset
  • System Exclusive Messages

 

INSTALLATION ^^^^^

Installation of all MIDI interface's parts into the Korg instrument is easy. No problem should occur if all instructions indicated in installation manual are kept. Note that there are differences in the installation process for Korg 770, 700S, 900PS and M500 instruments. Individual installation manual is available for each of the instruments.

None instrument circuit is modified during the installation. The vintage status of the instrument remain unchanged.

It is recommended to adjust the Korg instrument according to instructions in service manual of the instrument before the interface installation. This ensures trouble-free adaptation and usage of the interface.

K770-KBD / KM500-KBD kit package contains:

  1. MIDI Interface board
  2. Bunched cables with button and bi-color LED
  3. 2x DIN-5 socket with cable
  4. 3-wire bunched cable with connector
  5. 4-wire bunched cable with connector
  6. Coupling elements (screws, nuts, washers, LED holder, tightening strips, etc.)
